Company History

The Schalmo family has been building homes since 1958. The company started off by being a custom home builder in Stark County Ohio. Schalmo is located in Stark County and will build in a 40 mile radius of our office.

Don Schalmo (retired) established the company in 1958 in Stark County. At the onset, Schalmo built one to two homes per year
During the 1960's, the company began land development in Stark County and eventually in Summit County to broaden its capabilities.
In 1981, a sluggish economy and slow residential housing market caused Schalmo to branch into Commercial Construction.
Ken Schalmo, Don’s son, took control of the company's commercial construction and development business in 1986.
In 1998, Ken Schalmo took full control of the company and personally ran the residential division.
Schalmo currently operates as a residential home builder and commercial construction firm focusing on projects throughout northeast Ohio. In 2005, Schalmo built 95 homes in Stark County and surrounding counties. Over the life of the company Schalmo has built over 2000 homes in Stark County and surrounding counties.
Currently Ken Schalmo is back in control of the company’s commercial division and Greg Schalmo, Ken’s son, has taken over the residential division known as Schalmo Homes. Schalmo Homes focuses on being a custom home builder in Stark County and surrounding counties.
All three began their careers as hands on workers, “out in the field”, so that they understand the construction process from the full perspective.
Schalmo Homes builds custom and affordable homes. Schalmo Homes has the same commitment to quality on every home built whether it’s a $100,000 affordable home or a $500,000 custom home. We treat every project with equal importance. At Schalmo Homes, building a custom home does not mean expensive, it means personalizing the home to your individual needs.

The company has withstood industry ups and downs because of a strong customer base and references from past clients. We continue our commitment to our mission statement which has been the foundation of how we do business since the company was founded in 1958.
